We are humbled and filled with much gratitude to Global Ministries with the help of Rev Marco Cable, with the donation to re-open our computer lab.
- Description of Project Activities
The Bridgman Centre would like help to build a country where all its citizens has equal access to technology through sustainable IT solutions and education. Based on the above scenario it has been the vision of the church to close the gap and seek:
- To empower the community to have easy access to computers.
- Assist learners with applications for school and higher institution of learning
- Assist learners with their homework, research for school and university assignments
- Teach learners and adults basic IT skills
- Empower job seekers and adults to increase their chances of finding employment by:
- Description and evaluation of the relationships with all stakeholders (partners, other involved organizations, etc. The community will benefit directly from this project, as currently this is not within their means. We are in partnership with the military veterans who are using our facilities and are serving the community of Zola and Jabulani. The assist with CV’s when community need to submit CV’s when seeking employment. We see the Computer Lab as an opportunity to extend the services and harness our working relationship as we serve the community. The children from the community, mostly disadvantaged background, will be given computer skills and assistance with their school work. Assistance to be provided will include assignments and homework.
The Computer Lab will be extended to other young people from our UCCSA churches in the vicinity of Soweto. We see the facility not only benefiting the immediate, community of Zola and Jabulani, but the greater Soweto Community. The Computer Lab will also be used on Sundays, as resources for the children ministry at Bridgman Congregational Church. We also foresee it as a tool that will enhance children worship on Sundays.
- Dissemination, visibility and communication
The Bridgman Development Centre has been a beacon of hope for a many years, served the community and is held in high regard. It stands always in solidarity with the surrounding community and as such very popular amongst the community of Soweto, including schools. We will be creating a website, to establish presence in the social media platform. We are also designing a banner for our launch. We hope that once we get going we will utilize social media, because the bulk of the constituency we will serve is techno savvy. The word of mouth within the community play and incredible role.
We will also:
- Recruit volunteers with different skills and levels (primary school to senior or college) to be available to teach and supervise learners – duties will be scheduled on a rotational basis.
- Consult with the schools around and establish a working relationship, discuss their ICT needs and how we can work hand in hand (us as a feeder for the neediest learners)
- Registration with relevant authorities
- Department of education or any relevant body where necessary
